Welcome
and come on into 'The Scale Model Hanger', the doors are always open. Don't
mind all the fuel and oil smells, that's just in your imagination. My older
brother introduced me to plastic model building when I was very young, and I've
enjoyed it ever since. Over the years I have built everything from plastic
models of all scales to radio control models of all types, mostly airplanes,
but I do enjoy other subjects from time to time.
My real
enjoyment in modelling is researching the project and then trying and duplicate
it as close to the real thing in miniature as possible. To me creating a model that is
highly detailed and accurate down to the last detail as the scale of the model
will allow, is both challenging and rewarding at the same time. My wife
suggested that I should start a blog to keep written and photo logs during
my upcoming model builds, and so here we are. I would not consider myself
a master craftsman and this blog was not created to be a how to become a "Master Builder". Hope it
does give other modelers inspiration and some insight to the kits that I work
on.
My first
project being rolled into the hanger is a 1:8th scale World War one Fokker
Dr.I fighter plane produced by the Hasegawa model company. At this large scale there
should be plenty of room for adding detail that can be easily viewed once
complete. Hasegawa's model of the legendary Fokker Dr.I is one of three
produced by Hasegawa in the early 80’s I believe. The Fokker Dr.I was rereleased
in 2003. These amazing kits were sold as their 'Museum Series'. I have
read other build blogs on the web, and apparently the Fokker will need some
modifications to make it into a truly Museum worthy model, hope I'm up to
the challenge. The first task will be gathering research material and laying
out the build process.
Hope you enjoy 'The Scale Model Hanger' and please feel free to leave comments.
