Welcome and come on into 'The Scale Model Hanger', the doors are always open. Don't mind all the fuel and oil smells, that's just in your imagination. When I was young I used to build rubber band powered free flight balsa models by manufactures like Guillow, Sterling, Comet and some others. Radio Control was pretty expensive back then so I graduated to control line flying. When I reached my 20's I purchased my first radio system and built the Carl Goldberg Jr. Falcon powered by a Cox 1/2A engine.
Trying to learn to fly on my own was a real challenge but I did manage to fly it about 10 times before it was demolished in a crash. I finally learned by the help of a friend and have been flying off and on ever since. Researching a project is one of the aspects of the hobby that I really enjoy, the other is of course, building the aircraft. Building is becoming somewhat of a lost art with all the plug and play aircraft (Foamies) or (ARF, All Ready to Fly) models. There is nothing wrong with these as they do allow quick assembly time and very good flying model. Those who have never built their own model is really misses out on an aspect of the hobby that is both challenging and rewarding. Nothing better than to see ones hard work take off the runway for the first time.
My wife suggested that I should start a blog to keep a written and photo log during my upcoming model builds, and so here we are. I would not consider myself a master craftsman and this blog was not created to be a how to become a "Master Builder". Hope it does give other modelers inspiration and some insight to the kits that I work on.
Hope you enjoy 'The Scale Model Hanger' and please feel free to leave comments.
